A basic primer on raising money face-to-face

For those who ignore that most giving to nonprofits comes from individuals and go after corporate and foundation grants instead, here’s a quick read on connecting with individuals where most of the giving comes from.

Amy Eisenstein has a 20-page booklet: Simple Things You’re Not Doing to Raise More Money. She accepts that one major reason nonprofits don’t concentrate on individuals is because it “can be difficult and time consuming.”

So she breaks it down for us:

  • Identify your donors and prospects
  • Take time to cultivate those prospects
  • Ask for the gift
  • Steward the gift

This is a basic primer on face-to-face fundraising and a good starting point for an organization needing to amp up its development program. The digital file is saved here.

Amy’s blog is here.
