Forecast: Charitable giving will increase again in 2012

Following a 7.5 percent growth in 2011, charitable giving will see a 3.9 percent increase in the U.S. this year, according to the Atlas of Giving.

Atlas predictions have been shown to be 90 to 100 percent accurate since the service began two years ago.

Local nonprofits may benefit from a couple of Atlas predictions in 2012: “April 2012 is the weakest month for all sectors except the arts and the environment,” the report says. “Consider moving scheduled April events to March to take advantage of more favorable giving conditions.”

Also, “September should be an exceptional month for production. Plan your biggest appeals during September–you will get a better payoff.”
