Marketing maven Seth Godin reminds us that marketing should be our first consideration, not an afterthought.
“In the Mad Men era, we added marketing last,” Godin writes in his blog today. “Marketing and advertising were the same thing, and the job was to promote what was made.
“In the connection era, the marketing is the product, the service and most of all the conversations it causes and the connections it makes.”
On April 26 Jim Gochenour will explain how marketing figures into what we do in the development realm. Marketing: A Critical Tool for Development is the topic for his talk to MVDP at the Central Willamette Community Credit Union, 7101 SW Supra Drive, Albany. We will begin at 3 p.m.
“Marketing is the first thing we do, not the last,” Godin writes. “Build virality and connection and remarkability into your product or service from the start and then the end gets a lot easier. Build it into your app, your book, your movie, your insurance policy, and the red soles of your shoes.” Dare we add “your nonprofit organization”?
